Toate Categoriile Createspace Independent Publishing Platform Contributor(s):Author: Edward Hammond The First and Second Books of Adam and Eve, also known as The Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, are a late Christian work dating hundreds of years after the actual Biblical Scriptures. The First Book of Adam and Eve tells the story of what happened to Adam and Eve after they left Eden. It tells of the difficulties they encountered in their new home known as the Cave of Treasures, and of Satan's many appearances (often mistranslated as "apparitions") to them. The First Book of Adam and Eve also chronicles the birth of Cain and his twin sister Luluwa and of Abel and his twin sister Aklemia. It also details Cain's murder of Abel, as well as Adam's death. The first book focuses on Adam's sorrow at being outside the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve are constantly plagued by visits from Satan, who appears to them in many forms and attempts to trick them over and over again. The Second Books of Adam and Eve is an account of the history of the patriarchs who lived before the Flood. It chronicles the lives of Seth's descendants on the Holy Mountain and tells how they broke God's commandment and left the mountain, being tricked by Cain's descendants. The First and Second Books of Adam and Eve are classed as pseudegraphica which means "false works." The books are thought to have their source in the fifth or sixth century CE, but they show evidence of extensive and much later Christian additions from after the time of Middle Ages. The Slavonic Life of Adam and Eve is 28-39 of the Latin Life of Adam and Eve and is not found in the Greek text of the Life of Adam and Eve.

Toate Categoriile Touchstone Books Contributor(s):Author: Adam Cayton-Holland"Inspiring, tragic, and at times heart-rendingly funny." --People Unsentimental, unexpectedly funny, and incredibly honest, Tragedy Plus Time is a love letter to every family that has ever felt messy, complicated, or (even momentarily) magnificent. Meet the Magnificent Cayton-Hollands, a trio of brilliant, acerbic teenagers from Denver, Colorado, who were going to change the world. Anna, Adam, and Lydia were taught by their father, a civil rights lawyer, and mother, an investigative journalist, to recognize injustice and have their hearts open to the universe--the good, the bad, the heartbreaking (and, inadvertently, the anxiety-inducing and the obsessive-compulsive disorder-fueling). Adam chose to meet life's tough breaks and cruel realities with stand-up comedy; his older sister, Anna, chose law; while their youngest sister, Lydia, struggled to find her place in the world. Beautiful and whip-smart, Lydia was witty, extremely sensitive, fiercely stubborn, and always somewhat haunted. She and Adam bonded over comedy from a young age, running skits in their basement and obsessing over episodes of The Simpsons. When Adam sunk into a deep depression in college, it was Lydia who was able to reach him and pull him out. But years later as Adam's career takes off, Lydia's own depression overtakes her, and, though he tries, Adam can't return the favor. When she takes her own life, the family is devastated, and Adam throws himself into his stand-up, drinking, and rage. He struggles with disturbing memories of Lydia's death and turns to EMDR therapy to treat his post-traumatic stress disorder when he realizes there's a difference between losing and losing it. Adam Cayton-Holland is a tremendously talented writer and comedian, uniquely poised to take readers to the edges of comedy and tragedy, brilliance and madness. Tragedy Plus Time is a revelatory, darkly funny, and poignant tribute to a lost sibling that will have you reaching for

Toate Categoriile Brazos Press Genomic science indicates that humans descend not from an individual pair but from a large population. What does this mean for the basic claim of many Christians: that humans descend from Adam and Eve?Leading evangelical geneticist Dennis Venema and popular New Testament scholar Scot Mc Knight combine their expertise to offer informed guidance and answers to questions pertaining to evolution, genomic science, and the historical Adam. Some of the questions they explore include: - Is there credible evidence for evolution?- Do we descend from a population or are we the offspring of Adam and Eve? - Does taking the Bible seriously mean rejecting recent genomic science?- How do Genesis's creation stories reflect their ancient Near Eastern context, and how did Judaism understand the Adam and Eve of Genesis?- Doesn't Paul's use of Adam in the New Testament prove that Adam was a historical individual? The authors address up-to-date genomics data with expert commentary from both genetic and theological perspectives, showing that genome research and Scripture are not irreconcilable. Foreword by Tremper Longman III and afterword by Daniel Harrell.
